Cremations

The Most Popular Choice

Cremation has become the most common type of funeral service. Many families choose to hold a ceremony at the crematorium, using its chapel, while others prefer to have a service at a church or another meaningful location before the cremation takes place.

You have complete flexibility in deciding whether the service is religious or non-religious. A religious ceremony is typically led by an ordained minister or faith leader, while a non-religious service can be conducted by a civil celebrant or a humanist officiant.

At Staunton Funeral Service, we are here to assist in arranging the type of service that best honours your loved one’s wishes.

What Happens at a Cremation Service?

The funeral service can be arranged in different ways, depending on your preference. Mourners may gather outside to await the arrival of the hearse or take their seats in the chapel before the coffin is brought in. Alternatively, the coffin can be placed in the venue before guests arrive.

Unless additional time is requested, a cremation service typically lasts between 35 to 45 minutes. It can include hymns or meaningful songs, eulogies, and readings. At the conclusion of the service, the coffin is usually removed from view, allowing mourners a final moment of reflection before the cremation process begins.

Most crematoriums return ashes within one working day, and in some cases, even on the same day. Staunton Funeral Service is here to guide you through every step of the funeral and cremation process, so please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Unattended Cremation

A Simple and Affordable Option

An unattended cremation offers a dignified yet cost-effective alternative to a traditional funeral. This option provides a straightforward cremation without a formal service, making it ideal for those seeking simplicity or working within a budget.

On the day of the cremation, your loved one will be transported to the crematorium in a non-ceremonial vehicle, accompanied by our caring team. This usually takes place before 10 am or after 4:30 pm on a date chosen by us.

Since there is no formal funeral service or gathering at the crematorium, an unattended cremation allows families to say goodbye in a personal way—whether through a private memorial, a celebration of life, or another meaningful tribute before or after the cremation.

If you’re considering this option, we’re here to discuss your needs and help determine if an unattended cremation is the right choice for your loved one. Staunton Funeral Service can provide further details and make all necessary arrangements for you.
